Engineering-the word has lost its feeling and meaning!!

After the postponement of the first regular exam, finally appeared for my semester exam and the subject EMFT---full of derivations and confusion..I wonder what an engineer will do of these derivations once placed in some company where troubleshooting and maintainence of machines is all what you have to look after!! For this troubleshooting and maintainence work not the derivations but practical knowledge, experience and may be some out of the block thinking is required-atleast this is what i believe..An engineer is a person who has knowledge of what's going on in the technological field and what could be next i.e a vision of what can be the next thing.
And what we people are learning in college is: basics with applications which are outdated in present day scenario, copying files and assignments a night before the submission date, working on useless electronic kits meant for formality and not experimentation and many more petty useless things not in my mind right now. Right from the school days i have been looking for chances to learn and do something new. When i entered college, i thought perhaps this is the place where one can explore the world outside the books. But, a Big NO to all such things even in an institution which should be offering you something different from the cramming stuff. Perhaps in the two and a half years that i have spent in my college what i have learnt is perhaps orkuting, spending time on facebook, locking the doors of fellow hostellers and running way after banging them, beating about the bush while answering questions in exam, going out for eating PARANTHAS in wee hours of the day when perhaps the whole world is asleep etc. etc. All this just because of one factor- i have no interest in cramming these derivations and relations between quantities when i am very well aware of the fact that all this stuff is completely useless..
Indeed, "Concentrated H2SO4 ne poora BACHPAN jala dala and AB in derivations ne college lyf"..!!!!
